About Us

Highwood Asset Management Ltd. is a Canadian-owned, public asset management entity overseeing current activities in the industrial metals & minerals, oil production and oil midstream spaces. The asset management structure is positioned to potentially oversee other energy focused segments including ESG and other clean tech energy transition subsectors and technologies moving forward.

Formed in 2012, current operations (including mines & minerals permits) are held between Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

Highwood Asset Management Ltd. completed a name change from Highwood Oil Company Ltd. on July 20, 2021.

Executive

Greg Macdonald, President & CEO, Director

Mr. Macdonald has more than 18 years of experience in both Canada and the U.S. and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Oil & Gas Engineering from the University of Calgary. Previously, Mr. Macdonald was the VP, Engineering of Tidewater Midstream & Infrastructure Ltd., a public oil & gas midstream company. Prior thereto, Mr. Macdonald worked in various engineering roles at both private and public oil and gas companies. Mr. Macdonald has been actively involved in more than 30 oil and gas acquisitions ranging in size from $100,000 to $200 million.

Kelly McDonald, VP Exploration

Mr. McDonald is a Professional Geologist with over 25 years of oil and gas experience in Canada and the US. Mr. McDonald has been an officer in a number of oil and gas companies over the last 10 years and has been intricately involved in exploration and development of both conventional and unconventional assets across North America. Mr. McDonald has been actively involved in over 30 oil and gas acquisitions ranging from $100,000 to $150 Million. Mr. McDonald obtained a Bachelor of Science with a Specialization in Geology from the University of Calgary in 1995 and is a Professional Geologist in the Province of Alberta.

Chris Allchorne, CFO

Mr. Allchorne is a Chartered Accountant with over 15 years of financial and management expertise with public and private companies. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary in 2010 and received his Chartered Accountant designation in September 2013. Prior to becoming the Chief Financial Officer of Highwood in September 2021, Mr. Allchorne held the position of Controller at Highwood since January 2017. Mr. Allchorne articled and was a former manager with a mid-sized Calgary based accounting firm.

Joel MacLeod, Executive Chairman

Founding Chairman/CEO of Tidewater Midstream Ltd., Tidewater Renewables Ltd, Predator Oil (now Highwood), Predator Midstream Ltd.. Over 20 years of energy experience with a focus on oil and gas and a pioneer in energy transition in North America. Over last 7 years have deployed over $1.5 billion of capital, developed large infrastructure capital projects in $200 million - $400 million range including Pioneer Pipeline, Pipestone Sour Deep Cur Gas Processing Facility with water handling and CCUS, Prince George Refinery Acquisition, First Renewable Diesel + Renewable Hydrogen Facility in Canada, largest cattle feedlot RNG project in Western Canada. Received > $150 million of government grant support over last 3 years. Selected by Alberta Government for 2 of the largest CCUS Hubs in Canada (Brazeau and Ram River)

Stephen Holyoake

Mr. Holyoake brings over 20 years of operations, engineering and management experience to the Resulting Issuer. He has worked in all disciplines of the oil and gas business from exploration to midstream operations. Mr. Holyoake is a Professional Engineer and obtained his Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Montana School of Mines in 1997 and a Petroleum Engineering Technology Diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1993. Mr. Holyoake currently serves as the President & CEO of Fireweed Energy Ltd.

David Gardner

Mr. Gardner has over 30 years of experience in the global oil and gas industry, initially as a geologist with Exxon; and after completing an MBA, progressed his commercial career to the corporate executive level with a growing focus on general management, strategy, business development and M&A. He spent nearly 17 years with BP, including in BP's corporate center and M&A group, and leading Exploration new access globally and Upstream business development across Europe and Africa. From 2014, Mr. Gardner was SVP of Business Development for Husky Energy in Calgary culminating in Husky's combination with Cenovus Energy in January 2021 . Mr. Gardner, also, was a Special Adviser with Kirk Lovegrove & Company Ltd in London in 2021. Since December 2021 , Mr Gardner has been the CEO of Shale Petroleum Ltd. Mr. Gardner has a BS degree in Geology from the College of William and Mary in Virginia , an MS ‎degree in Geology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA degree from the ‎University of California , Los Angeles.‎

Ryan Mooney

Mr. Mooney is currently the Managing Director, Investment Banking for Echelon Capital Markets in Calgary with a focus on origination and execution of capital markets transactions within energy and diversified industries across Western Canada. Mr. Mooney holds both a P.Eng designation with APEGA and is a CFA Charterholder with extensive experience in senior roles in industry, research, institutional sales and investment banking. Mr. Mooney serves as the Chairman of Highwood’s Audit Committee.

Garrett Ulmer

Mr. Ulmer is currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of private oil and gas company West Lake Energy following approximately 2 years as Chief Operating Officer. Prior thereto, he worked in roles of increasing responsibility at Bellatrix Exploration from 2009 up to the role of Chief Operating Officer from 2017 to 2020. He has over 30 years' experience in the upstream oil and gas industry including extensive service with Imperial Oil (Exxon Mobil) and ConocoPhillips in various roles.
